Description
Photograph depicts the Argyll Hotel in St. Andrews at a medium distance. The hotel consists of three sections with differing heights: one three storey, one four storey, and one a five storey tower. All are painted a light colour, with dark-trimmed windows and mansard roofs with dormers. The name "Argyll Hotel" is painted above a two-storey porch on the main section. A road runs diagonally in the foreground, lined with a light wooden fence. At foreground right is a small cluster of trees.
The photograph is mounted on board. Inscribed below (handwritten in black ink) is the caption: ' "The Argyll" '

The Argyll Hotel was St. Andrews first purpose-built summer hotel, opened in 1881. The building burned down in 1892 and was not rebuilt.
